Default Bike rack

Hi. I’m looking for info on bike transport for my Daimler Double Six 1996.

is it worth trying for a towbar or is there a rack to suit.

thanks.

I just have a standard Yakima 2 bar system on my 1997 XJ6. If you take a look on Yakima's website you will be able to generate a vehicle-specific .pdf fitment guide. It depicted all measurements for mounting. One point to note is that you will need to get a certain set of "q-clips". These are easily changed between racks if you decide to get a used one. The q clips grasp on the chrome above the doors and for me have not done any damage over the last 2 years (even if they had the chrome is very easy to replace) and the base of the rack that touches the past has soft rubber feet that do not damage paint in the slightest. From there I just use the standard bicycle attachments. In the past I used a boot lid mounted unit but found it to scuff paint and move around quite a bit, and therefore would not advise using such a rack.

I purchased my Yakima rack on craigslist for $175 and it came with all the install hardware I needed as well as four bike attachments, I even picked up a 7+ foot Rocket Box for $120. Because you have a Daimler I assume you won't be using dollars but this should give you a general idea that this system can be used for a quite reasonable price without damaging your vehicle. I leave my rack on full time but install/removal is so quick that it could be used intermittently as well.

If you have any further questions or require assistance finding measurements feel free to ask below, I'm more than happy to help.
(image doesn't exactly highlight the rack and it is void of attachments at this point but you get the idea)

Ive never seen an X300 or X308 with roof racks. @British_Atlantic that looks really good! Could you maybe take some photos on the fasteningpoints? I dont understand where they sit exactly, do the arms reach down in the door opening? And what are these q-clips you are talking about?
