Bulb out! All are fine and working?
I have a light on the dash that says my buld is out
but I replaced the only one that was out and the light on the dash is still on
the fog lights do not turn on
Could that be the problem?

If it is one of the fogs, the dash warning will only illuminate when you turn them on. if on all the time, it is a bulb that burns all the time. If you have a brake light burn out, you'll notice the dash caution light only illuminates when you hit the brakes, etc.
When I said "all the time" I probably didn't mean it! What I meant is the dash warning won't bother you about a burned-out bulb you aren't trying to use. So his mystery failed bulb would be one that is supposed to be on when he has the warning light.

I'm not sure how the X300 works, but on older Jags it sensed the current draw from side to side and if there was an imbalance, it put the bulb fail on. I'm thinking that if your replacement bulb is not the same wattage as what is existing ( easy to do, as the European bulbs and US parts store bulbs can vary slightly) then the lights will be on, but the bulb fail will still be lit.
Try replacing the bulbs in pairs, or make sure the replacement is exactly the same as what it should be.
Which bulb did you replace, and what market is your car? I ask about the market, as Canadian cars with DRL's turn everything on, not just headlights. If the socket on a rear side marker is corroded (commonly happens) the current draw won't be what it should be and can turn on the bulb fail.

I missed this thread previously. As as note, my '91 XJ40 had bulb out indication I had trouble locating until my son noticed the reverse light on the left side wasn't lit as I backed out of the garage. Changing that bulb cured the bulb out indication. Not sure if it would be the same for the X300.
