Default Can't get the monitors to set. Any ideas?

I'm trying to help a friend pass smog on his 1996 VDP/XJ6.

It sets 2 of them and doesn't want to budge on the other 4. I follow the drive cycle from the factory service manual and it still won't budge.

The car has an intermittent issue with the oil pressure sensor (gauge working on and off) could this be causing the problem?

There is no diagnostic trouble codes and check engine light never comes on.

Any ideas? It's driving me nutz.

The car also doesn't feel like it has 245HP.

So today I made sure the plugs have the right gaps, changed air filter etc.

Than I proceded to do seafoam treatment to the motor. To my surprise one exhaust manifold started smoking like crazy so I suspect it is cracked.

Can I ask you: what is the drive cycle from the factory service manual? My shop told me I had 2 monitors needing set, my scanner tells me I have 3 (CAT, O2 heater, EVAP) I believe the CAT monitor won't reset until the EVAP monitor does, but I don't have the factory manual to know the drive cycle.

Any help appreciated.

While not a full set of drive cycle parameters, TSB 05.1-31 gives some info for fuel trim. Jaguar did issue updated PROMS for faults relating to some emission problems. The final PROM chip set was for the R (T) 493 recall.

Bob, do you know if it's possible to update the ECU with IDS or is swapping eproms the only way?

They are NOT EPROMS (Erasable,Programmable Read Only Memory), They are PROMS and cannot be programmed with IDS, WDS etc.

That is why jaguar issued them as a set.
