Car sticks in park and will not start sometime

There ar eseveral microswitches in there, along with a rotary switch on the XJR (I think), and a solenoid to release from Park. They must all work and be corrctly adjusted. So, yes your problem is probably in that linkage. I haven't looked, but adjustment is most likely in the service manual.
