Default center rearview mirror no dimming

I have only ever had a rear view mirror that you would flip for nighttime use. My X300 has a button instead, A green light comes on, but it does not do anything.

How does this mirror work?

Thank you,
tom

The mirror dimming is a auto feature and there is a TSB on a upgraded replacement.

Shine a VERY BRIGHT light into the sensor at the bottom of the mirror and the electrochromatic feature will 'dim' the mirror so the lights from behind will not interfere with your vision.

The mirror dimming is to prevent glare with bright lights behind. Useful when you have someone who doesn't know they have their high beams on.
There is a fluid in the mirror than can leak, it usually shows as a streak across the mirror if it's leaked out
If the light comes on, it may well be working. Have you checked the mirror at night?

there is a light that comes on?
i have absolutely no idea if mine works or not.
i have the slider set to the middle but the previous owner put extremely dark tint on the car so it has never had a need to work since i have had it.
i guess i will test it out just to see if it works or not.
where is the sensor located? as in where to shine the light
and where is the indicator light to show it is working or not?

**edit, just checked online, saw that there are 2 types, seen what type mine is, will check if it works in the next few days, just trying to test for battery drain atm so don't wanna touch the car yet.**

Hi! and yes, the mirror looks the same at night, with the green light on or off. Thank you, Happy Motoring!

I never could find paper on it but I have both styles

the original one is bad

the newer one is a different base and mounting and connector.

an option is to leave the original base in place and with a coin split the mirror housing / surrounds and just replace the internals / glass

it pops apart real easy starting at the gap in the sliding bar and snaps back together

what do you mean the original one is bad?
as it it breaks easily and often?
or it is just not good? or both?
