Default Central unlock button

So, I haven't really investigated it further but the other day I was in the Jag and i pressed the central unlock button on the center console and nothing happened. I closed the door to the car pressed it again and still nothing happened.

are these buttons known to have issues? Is there something i can do to fix this?

Recent information.

Battery has been in and out of car recently, have checked all fuses in system, currently checking grounding points.

Thanks

I don't know of any issues with those switches but do the central locks work otherwise? Does the remote work? The central lock button is a direct wire to the security and locking module in the trunk. Those modules I've seen fail from time to time. You would be best to check the wire going to the SLM. It is at the left side of the trunk behind the side carpeting near the hinge. Pull it out and back probe the Slate/Green (grey/green) wire pin 19 of one of the connectors. Have an assistant push the button and see if it grounds the wire. If so, then the sLM is bad. If not, the switch or wiring is faulty.

Mine is a different year and model but seems to only work when it wants to work. I just reach over and lock and unlock the drivers door and it opens the rest.

The central locking button on the dash only works if the key is in position I or II. That's one click forward or two clicks forward (ignition on).

If you want to lock yourself in before you put the key in, press down on the door lock pin on the door, and all should lock. Pull the door handle (or pull up on the door lock pin) and all should unlock.

My central lock button used to do strange things. I thought there was some sort of oddball electronic logic involved. So...I seldom tried using it and forgot about it. That was years ago.

A few months ago a similar question came up and, out of curiosity, I tried the lock button again. It works perfectly every time.

Later it dawned on me that I had replaced the entire clock/button panel a couple years ago.

The lock button on the original panel must have been intermittant.

Cheers

This issue seems to have been resolved by cleaning grounds and power pass throughs as well as replacing the alternator. Thank you
