Does anybody have any tips or pointers in relation to removing the chrome trim along the roof edge and the section that goes around the rear quarter light windows. Thats the somewhat triangular section just behind the rear doors. I would also like to remove the strips along the top edge of the doors, at the base of the window. ( The bit where you rest your elbow!) Also, the bump strips along the outsides of the doors. Are these just held on with an adhesive, or fixed on from inside the door itself. Many thanks. Rick did it on an S-Type, no idea if the attachment is similar - all I can tell you is that the trim on my 95 VDP "feels" more solidly attached than on either of the newer S-types and has definitely held its finish better!

On the rub-rails; Not sure about the doors, but on the front wing it is only fixed by a double-sided 3M foam tape. Hat tip to Jim (Bodyman) also over on the S-type section - I pm'd him to ask some advice on R&R of such when I had to change left front wings: "Take a bit of hi-test strength monofilament fishing line and "saw" it off, similar to flossing your teeth" Then you'll need to clean the remaining adhesive off - possibly by rolling it with your fingers or perhaps mineral spirits or other paint-safe solvent. You can use a small braided steel cable but you risk scratching the paint.

 

Thanks for the reply. I suspected or possibly read somewhere that the door bump stops were held on by a sticky tape, so no problems there. The trim along the roof etc. certainly feels solid and I suspect it's stainless steel, like the bumper chrome strip. Will have a look see tomorrow and I will take some pics if I have any success.
