Question 'Clean Aerial' message on OEM radio

So I get into the car today, start it up, and there is this repeating "ding" going off like you left the headlights on.

I'm looking all around and can't see any warning light, etc.... then I notice a message on the LCD of the radio that says "Clean Aerial".

...well how about that

Kinda cool. I didn't know the radio did that.

Now, what I wonder is... is this advisory like a "clean/replace filter" message on your home A/C thermostat that is really just a timer, or is the Jaguar radio somehow sensing that reception performance or load on the electic antenna motor is too high and the antenna should be cleaned?

Interesting.

.

It's a preset message Al. Will come up every so often just to remind you is all.

Clean it real good with an alcohol handi-wipe. Then coat it with some vaseline and raise and lower it about 5 times to spread it about. Aids in operation and acts as a nice rust inhibitor.
