Question Correct idle, X300 XJR

I hesitated to post this new question as i thought it surely must have been covered 100 times before.

So I've read through a pile of various "high idle" threads, and perhaps it was just because my eyes became glazed over from the number of posts... but although there were plenty of posts citing the current high idle RPM (park, neutral and in gear) being observed by the owner....

I didn't find it clearly cited what the correct idle should be

Could someone post the correct or typical idle RPM for an X300 XJR:

Park
Neutral
Drive/Reverse with brake applied

My xjr6 idles at a about 600 to 800 rpm depending if in park or drive, next time I take her out I will double check.

I agree with Jeremiah,
When in park I idle at around 800 and in drive it's at about 600-650.

I've noticed this both in my 96 XJ6 and 97 XJR

Well, sounds like mine is definitely high. I think the Jag mechanic got a little aggressive with the throttle/accelerator cable adjustment last Friday as my idle jumped up quite a bit.

I am idling:

Drive/Reverse (in gear) ~800-1000
Neutral ~1300-1500

I'm certain it was quite a bit lower than that before, so I don't think anything is "wrong" (as some other high idle threads have shown), just the cables a bit too tight based on cause & effect

That sounds like a cable issue. I tried adjusting mine on the XJR along with the kickdown switch and the same thing happened. Just back it off a bit while idling and you'll be able to hear the engine revs die down a little bit
