Dash lights stay on - drain battery
did not use car for a while but when i went back to using it again it started fine. (1995 xj6) drove it during day only. then one day was getting back late turned lights on, and since then battery drains. found out after using car that the dash stay on even though very dim and battery has large spark when i disconnect. does anyone have ant ideas. love driving my jag but this makes it tough to enjoy when you have to disconnect battery all the time. Battery new.

Just a couple of guesses.
1. Ignition switch. Wiggle the key and see if they go out. In these cars, many things rely on the ignition switch being in a run position. Odd stuff can happen internally with age and heavy key rings.
2, the dimmer knob. It is more likely to do the opposite, but I can see corrosion doing what cases your lights to stay on. Exercise it and see.
I sprayed mine with contact cleaner and turned it through a few cycles and my lights are now "fair". As good as they get, so I hear.

I've moved your question from XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III to X300 forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.

TSBs are your friend. (the ones nobody reads)
ISSUE:
Some Sedan Range vehicles in the above VIN range may experience the following
condition(s):
A) Locate illumination flickering on the radio, cigar lighter, door switch packs and
other interior control panels.
B) Locate illumination that is permanently on at a reduced brightness, noticeable
on the radio, cigar lighter, and door switch packs resulting in a discharged
battery.
These conditions are caused by the failure of the output transistor on the Dimmer
Module circuit board.
