Default DIY for complete radiator flush or antifreeze change out on 96 XJR

Does anyone have a DIY for changing out the antifreeze on the 96 XJR?

I've seen a couple of posts that talk about difficult purging air out the system.

And I still can't find the drain plug for the radiator.

The drain plug is on the bottom of the radiator, right side.

I drain the rad, refill will water, run the engine till, repeat several times until what you drain is all clear water. Then drain again, add 2 gallons new coolant, and top off with water. I've never had an air lock problem on mine.

In the old days, before we cared about run-off and pollution, we'd just let it all drain on the ground from a disconnected upper radiator hose ....with a garden hose supplying fresh water in the filler neck...but that was then.

If the system is really dirty I'd go with a professional power flush at a good shop

Aside: If there's no evidence that your lower radiator "octopus" hose has been changed, you better jump on it. It is a very big job....10 hours labor at least, I'd say....waaaaay to much to handle by the side of the road or if stuck in some tiny town in BF Egypt if it unexpectedly lets go.

Cheers
DD

yeah intake manifold has to come off. unless you have a 18 jointed arm.

& as far as I know, there is no drain plug on the XJ6 radiator. I've never been able to find it.

I'll make a complete DIY including excerpts from the JDHT shop manual once I sober up.
