The drain plug is on the bottom of the radiator, right side.
I drain the rad, refill will water, run the engine till, repeat several times until what you drain is all clear water. Then drain again, add 2 gallons new coolant, and top off with water. I've never had an air lock problem on mine.
In the old days, before we cared about run-off and pollution, we'd just let it all drain on the ground from a disconnected upper radiator hose ....with a garden hose supplying fresh water in the filler neck...but that was then.
If the system is really dirty I'd go with a professional power flush at a good shop
Aside: If there's no evidence that your lower radiator "octopus" hose has been changed, you better jump on it. It is a very big job....10 hours labor at least, I'd say....waaaaay to much to handle by the side of the road or if stuck in some tiny town in BF Egypt if it unexpectedly lets go.
Cheers
