drive shaft question
Hi all,
I'm a bit confused about the following (the car is Daimler V12 from 1995):
In the manuals there is warning which reads:
To preserve 'drive line' refinement. individual parts. other than
fixings. MUST NOT be renewed. In the event of any balance or
drive shaft component related problem. the complete assembly
must be renewed.Under no circumstances must the flexible
coupling (or its fixings) be loosened or removed from the drive
shaft flange.
On the other hand it is possible to buy Propshaft flexible coupling
Part No: CBC8996*
So what is the reason, that I shouldn't loosen or remove it? Balancing? it there a way to "re-balance it"?
Any experience with replacing it?
thanks.

I've wondered the same thing. I've never done the job on a X300 but I've read where others have.
I think the key is to make sure everything goes back together exactly the same way as it was disassembled...to keep everything in phase. And there is a definite "this side forward" on the coupling itself.
Others will chime in.
Cheers
