Drivers door cable and switch pack
Hi all, I've just had my drivers door apart to change the switch pack, After reading descriptions on this forum it wasn't too bad of a job, The hardest part was dislodging the plastic "christmas tree" mounts from there keepers in the door. Also realising that I had to disassemble the bottom section (approx 8 screws on the rear of the door panel) to gain access to the switch pack.
While I was reassembling I noticed that the door cable is badly frayed at the handle end, I have ordered a replacement before the inevitable happens and I lose the use of the interior door handle.
Generally I wanted to get some advice on how the cable is attached and accessed at the latch end as I didn't have a good look at it when the panel was off. Is this an easy fit or are there some pearls of wisdom people can share before the cable arrives and I go to fit it.

Working from memory, it's all straightforward. At the handle the cable has a small bend/solid lug, which just lips into a plastic receiver and it may be similar at the door catch end. The only thing to be aware of is that the cables are very "length sensitive" and sometimes a replacement can be minutely too short. It will fit but can be a tight fit, keeping the lock mechanism/handle under a slight tension, resulting in the lock mechanism not working properly.
You'll just have to wait and see. Good luck with it.

You will need a mirror to see into the latch assy where there is a plastic 'barrel' and the ball end of the cable. Lift the window up to gain access to the other side of the latch.
Make note of the positions of the plastic 'guide' barrel and the metal end of the cable.
There should also be a steel clip to keep the cable in the latch slot.
The cable is part of the interior release handle unless you get an aftermarket cable repair kit.

Thanks for all the advise guys, Has pointed me n the right direction. Searching google for diagrams of the interior of the latch assembly has also helped.
I've recieved the replacement cable and after having a good look at it tonight, The handle end is not a problem and fairly straight forward as described by sogood. However the latch end appears to be the tricky bit. looking at diagrams I've found on google and examining it with a torch after removing the top portion of the door panel, I'm at a loss as to how to successfully access it and fit the cable.
Have resided to leave it until I have better light and more time on my hands at a later point.

Thanks again guys, Jobs done, Things are only hard the first time you do them.! I removed the bottom half of the door card and realised I had much greater access to the latch and that the internals, i.e Where the cable runs. Is viewable from the side facing the outside of the door. With a little help from a mirror as suggested, It wasn't all that complicated after all. Thanks again.
