Electric steering column model compatibility?
Is the electric memory steering column in my 1997 xjr compatible with x308 (and vice versa)?
Is there a lit anywhere of parts compatibility between x300 and x308?
cheers

I've put a X308 column to my X300 as mine wasn't good for the reach position potentiometer. I had to replace the connector mount bracket and remove the immo antenna ring from the ignition switch. Some actuator wires are a bit longer than on X300 but everything else is direct fit. When you will be removing your column take it out with the u-jount and mount it on the replacement column first as the rack side of the u-joint is much easier to remove/install than column side.
Cheers! Perfect forum response. Huge help.

If you have an issue of either tilt or retract ( can't keep them straight ) on the X300 there is a TSB on upgrading to a stronger motor , this is the lower motor that can be seen easily , just peek under
The work around without motor change is to clean and replace the grease in the sensor package gearworks ( you can see and feel it at the car fwd side of the motor ) that just clips on by a large tab ( no tools ) , the clip on package has gummed up gearworks that slow or stop the motor
The black box square sensor gearworks refresh has been done by many and plenty of pics
In the end the sensor gearbox must be clocked on installation and a battery charger on the motor electrical tabs can move the collum to match the sensor
The other issue is the worm cable on the very top for tilt ( I beleive ) breaks
You can use the battery charger method to see the lower motor move the collum but then again must be clocked if removing the sensor package
I'll see if I can find pics

Some have removed the wave washer on the sensor gearbox that just clips on
I can't upload pics as throttled back internet but there are plenty on this website
10-12 TSB link
To clock sensor gearbox , wind the gearbox to one end , drive the motor tabs with a battery charger and then clip on sensor gearbox , the motor has resistance so won't fry anything but put charger on 2 or 10 amp setting , a car battery works as well
This is a high current situation so it will arc so you can make preferred pigtails to bring work out to you
It could have blown a fuse in being stuck from the very beginning and the warmer weather may have loosened the binding old grease in the sensor gearbox
