engine light won't clear- tried obd II and disconnect ground
Hi,
my check engine light will not clear. I used an obd II scan and after replacing a coil, it will not clear using the scanner. I disconnected the battery cable (ground) for 8 hours and it still is showing check engine. nothing is coming up on the scanner.
thoughts?

I'm not sure if non-powertrain codes will light the X300 MIL or not, but if so, yeah, you need specialized equipment to read C-codes and others that don't start with a "P"
But any OBDII unit should read and clear your powertrain codes. Try a search, I seem to recall someone posting a Mil illuminated with no corresponding codes, but it was quite a while back. Try "MIL" "CEL" or maybe "code"

Have this same issue with my mom's XJ6L where there's a CEL that can't be read. None of my scanners detect the CEL.
What I ended up doing was putting the ecu in from her XJ6L into my XJ6 and I can read the codes fine through there and reset them. I know it's not the best solution but it's worked everytime for me.
