engine missing badly
I just purchased an exceptional xj6 vanden plas of 1996 vintage. This machine ran so well I could not tell if the engine was turned on unless I pressed the accelerator pedal. The only problem was ....that I,m a neat freak and the last owner didn,t care how the engine bay looked so it was quite dirty.I then prceded to shampoo the engine bay just I have many times on my hemi ram.I now have a beautiful xj6 than runs like an old tractor and the exhaust system is turning bright glowing red.I suspect I got the ignition module wet and that is the cause of the miss, but what is causing the exhaust to get so hot ?Also have any of you out there ever pulled a bone head move like mine, and how can I fix it .This is 4 days now and the miss isn't getting any better, worse acctually, now I have the check engine light flashhing on the dash.Any help you could lend me would be MUCH appreaciated.thx...Jamie

RE: engine missing badly
Nothing specific to the XJ6, rather normal automotive troubleshooting.
I certainly have seen bright red exhaust systems before!
Did you remove any plug wires?
And possibly get them back on wrong?
Vacuum hoses?
Knock any loose, especially emissions releated?
Does this car have an EGR valve?
Did you knock any garbage into the pintle area, possibly sticking it open?
Water in ther O2 sensor plugs?
My guess in not a module.
They work or they don't.
What to the diagnostic codes tell you?
