Default engine revs on its own

I have a 1996 XJ6 VDP with a 4.0 six and it seems to not want to coast when I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal. If I shift it into neutral at speed the engine will rev to 3000 rpms quickly.Any ideas what could cause this? Thx Jamie

sounds like you need a throttle body.

or engine setup
including throttle potentiometer recalibrate
make sure throttle body is clean as well
and low battery voltage can cause throttle pot to go out of range also
so check battery condition too using a good battery tester
