jth, I can't speak directly about the XJ6 engine, but if you do this mod, one of the big things that I would ensure you do is knock the compression down on the engine to a more manageable number like 8.5:1 or 9.0:1. If you go with the stock 10.3:1, you are going to be requiring some fairly special gas and it will make driving the car no fun due to the cost.

I guess the other thing that I would look at is how much power you are shooting for. I would start with that number and that will then dictate the amount of power you can realistically get out of a motor on a budget. As long as you are sticking under 400 hp, then the XJ6 engine should do you good and should be a reliable engine. More than that, be looking at the XJR's V8.

Granted, I would be looking at spending a bit of money on porting/polishing the intake/heads. You can open up some more power and even with a mild supercharger, obtain the power numbers you are looking for. By using a smaller supercharger, you are more likely to remain on pump gas.

It would be far less expensive to just buy a 95-97 XJR. It will have the stronger transmission and proper engine management. It would also be factory, so repairs are by the book instead a "where do we start now?" with every repair.

As Ken mentioned just buy a XJR. Why would you want to sink $5,000 + into a $2,000 - $3,000 car?

I would sell your XJ-6 and buy a 98-99 XJR. Very Cheap Money now. The below will cost 1,800 bucks. Take the 3,200 you saved and get a new paint job?

They have 370HP stock in the 4.0L.

Immediatly do a Transmission Service from Euro. Get a Pulley Upgrade. Take the Screens out prior to the Cat, and if You know of an inspection station, take the cats out and hollow/core them, Denso Plugs, and oh yes always Super Unleaded and synthetic. Put a cat back Mina exhaust and Cold Air Intake and wammo you have 410hp and 0-130mph never was so much fun.

That is what I did and all is Good
