Default engine wont crank sometimes..

ive just finished replacing the engine in my 95 xjr. heres a thread for that https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...estions-72307/ it starts fine sometimes and then i will go to start it again and it wont even crank. im not if its something heating up and causing it not to work like a crank position sensor can do. but it did it when it wasnt warmed up yet as well. not sure what to look for as im not that great with the electronics. thanks

I would clean and tighten all battery and ground connections first.

Ok I will. Check all the grounds tomorrow after work. I know the battery connections are good. And all other accessories are working properly.

Agreed.

Also, IF it wont crank, then that means the starter is getting NO power from either the starter relay, or the neutral start switch is not operating as it should (kind of a common issue).

Clue to neutral safety switch problem: If the "P" on the shift indicator isn't glowing red it won't start.

Ok guys thanks for the tips, I will try these things when I'm home from work. I have tried moving the shifter around and tried starting it in neutral and nothing. Could it be security related? Like the car isn't recognizing the key or something?

It might be security related but, if it is, it has nothing to do with the key, though. USA X300s use a standard key...no secuirty chip

Ok guys I have figured it out with your help. It did end up being just the shifter is really finally when in park. As soon as I jiggle it a bit the red p lights up and she starts and purrs nice. Is this just a ware item a bad switch or something? Thanks.

The "linear switch" needs adjusting.

It's under the wood panel, mounted to the right side of the gearshift assembly. Loosen 3 screws....one of them is tricky...and move switch fore/aft so that the red "P" light glows without the gearshift be jiggled

Cheers
