Default Fender questions

Hi all, we are looking for a replacement fender for our 96 xj6. It's not a VP model. I've seen some fenders for sale stating the are for VP models. Would that also fit ours? And would a fender from an xj8 be the same? Lastly, is 95 - 97 the only years that will fit our 96? Hoping to find one in the original color (Ice Blue Metalic I think it's called). Appreciate any guidence you can give.

Thanks so much,

Bobby

All the fenders are the same for 95-97 regardless of version. I believe the 98-03 fenders are very close to the same and could be made to fit. That would open up the market for you. Your Ice Blue metallic should be paint code MDP. I don't know what years it was used but vaguely remember a chart that shows colors/years. I will look around for it.

I agree with sleekjag, they are all the same. Check the classic jaguar parts site to be extra sure, where I believe that you will find that they are still available new, albeit at an exorbitant price. As you probably know, they are bolt on items and so relatively easily swapped. Sadly the once plentiful supply of used replacements in rust free condition hasvirtually dried up, at least here in the UK.

finding the right color will be tough, it has to be same year. 95-03 will fit

VP models have a chrome strip over the plastic guard held in with adhesive. you can rub it off but it takes patience

"Saw" the extra chrome trim off with a length of monofiliment fishing line. You are actually cutting a bit of foam that is between the strip and the adhesive. Then combine elbow-grease with suitable solvent to remove the remaining foam and adhesive.
