Front end clunking investigated
So, I got sick of the racket and took a look today. On top was a nut, a flat washer and a bushing flattened into a pancake. Below that, it was missing the cup washer that holds the bushing on BOTH sides, no spacer and a flat washer like the top holding up an un-flattened bushing. Certainly, looking at a parts schematic, it isn't right.
Do you agree that this setup is wrong and the cause of the racket?
The parts are ordered and I look forward to a car that doesn't sound like a Chevette on a bumpy road.
(2) lower washers(mmd2143aa)
(4) shock bushings
(4) cup washers(cbc5431)
(2) spacer tube(2154aa)

Well, I installed all of the missing shock mount items. It has certainly reduced the amount of clunk, but it still is there. I took a pry bar and tested the ball joints and they seem ok.
Can someone please offer a solution?

Did you check the bushing where the shock lower mount attaches to the lower control arm? When off the ground, you can't rattle it, take some pressure off the shock with a jack under the control arm. The bushing is $3.50, but a beast to replace.
