Default Front suspension squeaking/creaking noise

Hi Folks

I just noticed a "squeaking/Creaking" sound while driving, coming from the RHS front suspension area. This morning I pulled the cat into the garage and was able to replicate the noise by simply pressing down on the right front fender with a rocking motion..... It's is comming from the suspension/coil spring area.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the cause?

Also how do i know or confirm my shock absorbers are shot?

Thanks

The bushings in your stabalizer bar connector rods have likely gone bad. The're about $20 each for new rods and are easily replaced (just 2 bolts).

You can confirm before replacement by removing the lower bolt nearest the lower shock absorber bolt and rotating the arm away. You'll very likely hear the same 'creaking' sound you described, and if you then rock the car in the manner you've mentioned, the sound will have disappeared, confirming the worn bushings. Lubing with grease provides a temporary remedy whilst awaiting parts arrival.

Hi BigBoss,

I like Suede's theory regarding your squeak. The most common symptom of front shock bushing failure is a knocking noise when going over bumps.

The traditional old-timer mechanic method of testing your shocks is to push down with all your weight on the bumper, then release suddenly and watch to see how many times the car bounces. More than about 2 times and the shocks are probably shot. 1-1/2 times or less and they're probably still working fine. The top bushings tend to fail long before the shocks do, and if the lower bushing in the wishbone is original it may be deteriorated. Here are some links to parts diagrams showing the upper yellow foam bushes, the two parts number 8 in the diagram at the link below:

And the lower shock or damper bushing, part 13 in the illustration at this link:

Cheers,

Don

Good Morning Suede and Don B

Just a quick update..... I drove over 70 Miles yesterday evening and can report no more Squeaking Noise........ since I used your suggestion and applied some WD40......

I will have to install new shocks and bushings in the next week or so.
Thanks

Just a quick update today I loosened and removed the upper bushing of the shock and carefully replaced them ensuring to make sure the they were positioned correctly and lubricated and tightened down per the Jaguar heritage guide............. The creaking is gone........ at least for now.......
