Fuel delivery problem power in circuit
Short version: I need to check for power at the fuel pump connector socket.
Longer:
I replaced my EGR valve and cranked the engine and I was pleased with the smooth idle and then it got slower and slower and died.
Using starting fluid applied behind the MAF in the oil breather hose hole it starts ok but wont stay "lit" .
Replaced fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter - still same.
Swapped out the relay in trunk area too.
Disconnected the fuel line at rear of the rail (opposite the regulator) and no fuel arrives with key on or cranking.
I have a new fuel pump and was about to replace it when I decide to be sure it's getting power at the pump connector on top of tank.
I put a test light probe in the socket at the both colored wires (at different times) and grounded on the negative of battery.
I had a helper turn the key to first position because I had read that it would get power for a second when key is turned on -- No light.
Tried a different 30 amp fuse (boot fuse bow) too.
So now I am spelunking in the electrical diagram and I see there's a fuel pump relay #1 and #2. The other relay is shown to be at the front of the battery.
Fuse socket is getting power and the test light comes on when probed.
Am I checking for power at the pump wrong?
I will go forward with the fuel pump replacement but I would sure feel better if I knew it was getting power.
Thanks
