Fuel Pump question.....

Fuel Pump question.....
hi, I was just wondering, I was looking to replace my fuel pump. I have a 96 XJ6, and I was looking online, and there is so many to choose from. Which one is the best, or OEM? Or which ones would you guys recommend? Also, should I go with a entire kit? or just the pump itself? thanks.

Down here I use Bosch, Goss, Fuel Miser, or as a LAST resort OEM.
The "assembly" from Jaguar here is mega$$ (and a Non stock item, really), whilst the pump alone, aftermarket, is around the $200 mark and readily stocked. The pumps come with the inlet filter and all other items required to fit them. The plastic support unit will not be damaged under normal circumstances, so replacement would not be a requirement.

Hehe...Grant...in my book....scant differentiation....2 bills IS mega-bucks for a flippin' fuel pump.... (I think my Gr. Marquis was on the order of $50-$60....) but if they crap the load every 100k mi..(and that without warning).....guess I should start shopping now as I have 85k and avg 74 mi/cal day.....so I'll have one on-hand when it goes...
Does anyone know if they relay on tank-level for cooling like the S-types? I "avg" 16.5 gal fillups on the 21.3 gal tank, with fairly frequent 19-20 gal fills. Maybe I'm not doing it any favors?

A minute of Googling reveals X300 fuel pumps ranging from $69 to $574. Some of them look suspiciously similar to the f/p I used on my '90 Thunderbird S/C and my brother's '89 Chevy Van :-).
Sometimes vendors use generic pictures but I wonder if there's anything truly unique about the X300 fuel pumps?
Cheers

I have just obtained a Goss GE059 fuel pump, as listed for the X300 NA.
It is as Doug said, "nothing special", so I am going to go thru the pumps at work and see if something else will do the job, and be cheaper, then return the Goss.
I had this same fiasco with the BMW, $698 for a fuel pump, so a little looking in the books and a Mitsubishi unit ($67) was fitted, just fine, a little "out of box thinking" required, and the car never new any different. Sold it as soon as mobile, never again.

When it's my turn, I'll probably order the Denso:
1996 JAGUAR XJ6 Fuel Pump
Hard to believe anyone would order the Bosch for $815 USD.

hello, guys i got this one covered did my fuel pump back in sept of 2010, took me 9 hours to do it myself i replaced it witha Denso , approx retail 186.00 dollars from BAP auto parts i have a 1995 xj6 4.0 eng..had to take the whole tank out, well not all the way out but heck took filler neck loose, then worked it out far enought to get too from the top there a pressure ring i will call it with some hose, theres no way you can change it thru the fuel level sensor, why do engineer make it so hard for something like that that will maybe fail some day, but heres the stupid kicker, the fuel filter i believe was the cuprid, one morning went to start, nothing just cranked over no fire, took fuel rails loose no gas traced back to fuel tank, took fuel level sensor out took flashlite(torch) the hose from top of fuel pump blew off, ok now what, no way can you put hose back on there no working room, so pulled tank far back enough to go thru top, ok 2nd stupid thing be real care i put hose back on was giving just one more quarter turn on hose camp, BAM!!!! cracked plastic neck hose slip on DAH!! anyway, i had changed the fuel filter a couple months prior, i think over the yrs filter clogged up back pressure got hard, eventually blew line off
