hello everyone, I own a 1996 XJ6/300 and I hear a ticking noise that has been getting louder over time. I took it to the jaguar tech over here and he said it was my fuel injectors. Now I can get all 6 injectors for around 650-700 bucks or so, but I wanted to know before I actually do all of that, should I get the injectors cleaned and or remanufactured? Or just go brand new with them to stop the ticking noise. And also, what is the labor time on installing 6 fuel injectors plus the orings... thanks.

That's a new one on me! I doubt it's all the injectors. There might be one bad one, get a stethoscope and find if there is a loud one. More than likely, the ticking is something else though, maybe a valve out of adjustment, something on the auxilliary belt drive or a cam chain tensioner.

Harbor Freight Sells mechanic's stethoscopes for about $3.00. Very handy tool to have, get one and poke around with it. Watch out for drive belts etc.

So what is your take on fuel injectors, do they actually get noisy?

Before you spend that kind of money on injectors cross ref. them to see what else may use them. The ones on a BMW 540I are the same ones used on Chevy v-8's you can get a set of 8 from Jegs or Summit racing for $240.00 Its worth a shot.

theyre normally noisy at idle and alittle about till the clicks become fast enough its a continous sound. If theyre louder than normal but still work fine without issue, then use the button on the radio to tune them out

fuel injector don't make such noise, are you finding any hesitation or hard take off? check intake and exhaust valve clearance for the thicking noise.

Hey Brute,

How's life? I have a guy on another forum who thinks he has an injector leaking down and wanted to pull it, I suggested having the system pressure cleaned first. He's in Dallas, PM me so I can hook you guys up.

Please look at this site before you spend that much money on 6 injectors. These are standard Bosch style, so I do belive GM TPI/LT1 and some others will cross reference with the XJ series motors. I am just learning my Jag but I have been a EFI Chevy guy for a long time. I can't promise 100% but I think you will be pleasently suprised if you lay a TPI injector.....Mustang GT or Corvette injector next to ours.
