My 1996 x300 has the old style garage door opener (GDO) module that I'm told, and tried without success, won't operate a newer rolling-code GDOs.

Would a 1998 module work with the newer style GDOs?

If I'm wrong, and the '96 module WILL work a newer Chaimberland GDO, then point me to directions that will work.

I've programmed Homelinks dozens of times and this method hasn't cooperated with my x300.

But, I'll try again.

I believe the rolling-code-capable homelinks happened along about MY1998. Bob posted up that there was a retro-fit module released for X300's and gave a part-number but didn't know if any were still available. If I run across that post I'll edit a link back here.

and an X308 module "may" work but it is not a simple plug-n-play....

 

Jaguar Issued a TSB and the updated GDO transceiver for 'Rolling-Code' units.

I know the X308/X100 had the RED LED for older GDO and the AMBER LED for rolling code but I don't remember if the same is true for X300.

I have the RED LED in my 1997 XJ6L so I will try to programme it to my late model Chamberlain GDO. I will bet it WON'T work.

I have a 1996 XJ12 X300 with the original GDO (red flashing light) that is not compatible with the newer rolling code openers. I tend to want things to work so I got a X308 overhead module (the whole thing), removed the lighting unit and the GDO transmitter intending to reinstall the rolling code parts in my overhead. Sort of worked, everything but the interior lights was fine. I spent some time with schematics and the circuitry of both the X300 and X308 devices and determined that the X308 could be converted to the X300 configuration with full compatibility. I did it and now have a rolling code transmitter in my wonderful XJ12. The attached PDF shows how to do it.

Many thanks Niles for this useful & accurate pdf "X308 interior lighting modifications" in regard to having a rolling code garage door opener compatible with the X300 series. I purchased like you a complete X308 overhead console & carried out the mods you so well outlined & presented.
I now have an overhead console in my XJR (X300) with a working garage door opener & all other functions as per normal.
