Default gear selector relays chattering

When in Park there is no problem. When selecting any gear there is a constant chattering of what sounds like 2 or 3 relays; some next to the gear lever and some behind the driver's side dashboard. They continue to chatter when driving, accompanied by an occasional loud 'clunk' from the bottom of the gear lever area. The performance of the car does not seem to be impaired. My local Jaguar garage changed the gearstick inhibitor switch for a used item from Jagbreakers but there has been no change and the problem remains. Any ideas?

Firstly welcome aboard.

When time permits, please do an Intro in the New Members Area.

Being in the UK, is it a 3.2, 4.0 or an R spec car.

The R have have here at the moment was doing similar, but only the 2 in the console, and the Linear switch was grubby, and out of adjustment, easily cleaned and reset.

There is a gearlever interlock solenoid in the console LHF, and is activated by the switch on the brake pedal, maybe that switch is out of whack, and causing a chattering signal, which would confuse the electrickery.
