Default Gearbox wierdness/problem

About 4 months ago, i noticed a leak from the auto box around the gasket so decided to order a new one and change it.

I had to drop the sump as there is no drain plug on my car, cleaned the magnets at the bottom of the sump (there wasnt much rubbish on them), put the sump back on and topped up the fluid.

I have now noticed a couple of 'issues'.

1 - To check the level, we are supposed to put the box through all the gears and wait for 1 minute? I do this and when i pull the dipstick out, there is nothing on it. If i replace it and re-remove it, it has a good level.

2. Before the change when engaging drive, the car would almost jerk into gear which none of the other autos i have ever driven have done (another reason for wanting to change the fluid). Now, it seems much smoother but in the cold, it engages but the car doesn't move. Give it some throttle and it slowly starts moving then is normal after that.

Does anyone know what may be causing this?

TIA
