Doug, I swear, where do you come up with these? You crack me up. After reading most of this thread, and agreeing with some, disagreeing with others, I find that humor trumps all.

I have two engines sitting on a rack. One is an XJ6 with 70k miles on it i bought to replace the engine in my beloved XJ6, if it had needed it. The other is an XJR AJ27 I bought because I assumed my MY 98 XJR with 250k miles would be needing it. The fact is, both of these cars are retired due to bad cases of the uglies, but I have had no reason to consider using either spare engine. Seat bolsters, carpet, seat mechanisms, radios and cd players, clearcoat, bumper covers, suspension bushings, axle bearings, road rash, headliners and a bad case of hail damage on the XJ6 all combine to make the cars impractical to keep on the road, but the engines in each, meticulously serviced at the dealer 10K OCI or a little more or less are all still runable with no unusual oil usage, good power and no bad habits, (well, OK except for the X-300 damper and cold start chain rattle after 285,000 miles on the clock).


So, again, elixers, oil changes sooner than manufacturer's recommendation, or other magic life prolonging actions just would not have had any value for m
