Smile A good test of the Harmonic Balancer

I was pretty convinced my main crank pully, better known as the Harmonic balancer, was beginning to fail. So I talked to Motorcarman about getting it replaced. The logistics was going to be a nightmare. My local Indy was not so convinced. One thing that Bob Gauff recommended I do was to test the damper (thanks Bob for the idea). The test was to mark the timing wheel and each of the pulley flanges with a dob of white paint or white-out. Then keep an eye on it and if it is failing the marks will move in relation with each other and will no longer be aligned. Well I did that. And so far they are still aligned.

My Indy which is a great guy and a good thinker looked under the hood and he thinks the occasional squeal was caused by a very slight drip from the water pump. You could see evidence of coolant being slung from the belts, although very slight. Looks like a new water pump is in the future.
I know that even a few drops of coolant can cause a belt squeal.

Any one have a thought the damper pully is becoming delaminated should do the white-out check recommended by Motorcarman, Bob Gauff.

Thanks Bob. But sorry that I probably won't be bringing the car over. At least not for that problem.
