Have now owned my 97 XJR for three whole weeks and getting into adding an older Garmin GPS. I cannot get a power reading at the cigarette lighter socket and have found the related fuse under the right rear seat is good. Would prefer not to do extensive troubleshooting to isolate the problem. Is there another point, hopefully under the dash, where I could pick up power and run it to the GPS? Other suggestions? Thanks.

 

Find a wire near the bottom of the steering column that has power (12V) with key on using test light or multimeter. Should be many to choose from.
Unless you want the unit powered all the time. If not going directly into the fuse block, would recommend an inline fuse for the unit.
