Default Have a question about Sunroof 95-97XJ6 Please read, thanks...

hi everyone, I had a couple questions about the sunroof on the 95-97 X300's. I have a 1996 XJ6 and the left side tilt/slide assembley broke the other day, so I went on ahead and ordered that part. Today I had my sunroof painted and noticed that the seal had gaps in it, so I went on ahead and ordered a new sunroof seal because it was getting dry rotted anyways. Now I notcied that there are to pieces for the sunroff on the inside, you have the cover part, and then you have a space then you have another smalelr part behind that, that pulls back when the sunroof opens, it used to be glued together, but now its in 2 seperate pieces, does anyone know if its suppoed to be seperate, or glued togather. I am thinking the guy glued it togather that worked on my sunroof about 2 years ago. Also the cover part is hanging on both sides, it problay just needs to be reattatched? Any answers would help me out. Also I know the headlines needs to be dropped, how long do you think in time will it take to do this? thanks.

Some observations:
1) The cracks probably mean nothing- The gap at 180degrees is the joint. The seal is an air noise seal.. Watertight is done by drain troughs to hoses at each corner.
2)The smaller panel rides on clips- No glue. It rocks up separately for the tilt function.
30 If you have a long version, RR of the headliner is much easier. Do not be afraid to fold, even creas the panel on the pieces outside the sunroof hole. Lower and tilt back front seats, take trim loose, cuss and finally get it out.

thanks for the responce, when you say the sammler panel ridges on clips, are those seperate parts? Because I did order 1 clip, but it didnt say that it needed more than one. Also, does the headliner need to come out in order to install the tilt/slie assembley? btw I have a swb model, thanks

Hmmm. I do not remember what it looked like. I will see if I can look at it and remember, but maybe someone can post a picture in the mean time. To replace a slide, you definitely should remove the headliner. I assume you know there is a procedure to sync the motor mechanism.
BTW, you might want to look at the recent thread in the XJ8-XJR forum "How to replace sunroof seal? " started by Swick as the roof is exactly the same in the X300.

As to the sync- the positions to stop and revers direction are stored in the motor, but once you remove the "rack" cable, you must rest the positions. I do not remember the procedure, but you can find it here or in Jag-lovers in the archive or in the JTIS or Alldat manual. ditto he schemetics.
