Head lining done

Head lining done
Recovered my head liner this morning, Very easy to do.
You only need to take the side trim off on one side plus the various bits that screw through the liner and side trims.
I used one 500ML tin of spray trim fix with a high temp factor of 120c.
Do not be worried about bending the liner to get it out or put back in.
I put my seats right forward and then reclined them, then twisting the liner so that the back is toward the right hand side passenger door i kind of creased the board and pulled gently and it popped straight out. When you take it out you'll see how easy it will go back.
The only things you need to careful of are, the intrusion sensors are held in by plastic push pins which you cannot see,the captive areas on the sensors broke leaving the pins in the plastic backing, also the rear trim piece by the rear seat has a push pin that's behind the light in a plastic bracket this will most likely snap off the trim piece.
That piece will super glue back on, for the intrusion sensors I used some number plate double sided tape two pieces thick to stick it on to the plastic back piece.
In total the job took me 3 hours. The only thing to watch is where the sun glasses holder is you need to cut the material, when i did this the material separated from the backing leaving it slightly saggy, however once everything is back in place it does not notice.
Also make sure you get the right colour I thought mine was Limestone until i fitted then noticed the sun visors and sun glasses holder are grey.

Unfortunately I did not take any pics.
I did follow several different write up's on various forums, my only concern was bending the head liner but i need not have worried.
Also some people say the liner should come out through the front passenger door but I don't think would be possible.

I have a question, why do these headliners sag or whatever ? I have had cars all of about 55 years now, never had one with that problem is it a Jag thing or what ? seems like an easy fix, just wondering about it, I have a 1997 xj6 vdp and still looks great, I am lucky I guess, Satterfield

Nothing new, really. I remember first seeing the headliner-droop problem in the late 70s/early 80s on GM cars. Then, as now, the material separates from the foam backing and/or the foam backing separates from the headliner board it's glued to.
So, no, not just a Jag thing. Many manufacturers use/have used the same type of headlining and they all seem to suffer the same fate.
Cheers
