Default Headliner

Is there a diy to repair the sagging material of the headliner or what would it cost to have it done? Thank you, Jeff

The headliner outside fabric layer has a very very thin layer of foam that glues to the plastic shell that is the backshell of the headliner ; once the foam degenerates from age no glue will adheire , there are some special pin and such available or home items to use as not full repair / full replacement

There are a couple of specific X300 and same chassis X308 Youtube videos of people doing full replacement

At the large fabric stores you can see an example of new headliner material on the rolls in a couple of color choices

G'day Ward,

When I replaced my headliner I just took my car to a local vehicle upholsterer and had them do the lot. The cost was comparable to the info on the website and in my case was $350 Oz dollars and the best part was I didn't have to wrestle the headliner board in and out of the car or get covered in spray adhesive.
It might be worth getting an estimate of the cost before you do anything else.

Cheers,
Jeff.

It's been awhile since I watched their video but if I remember correctly they use a foldable fiberglass backer. So you can bust up the old one to get it out and then roll the new one up and insert it through a door. Clever.

The last time I checked, they weren't shipping to the US. Have they started?

I have been an automotive upholsterer
for quite some time.
I have recently recovered mine in my 95 XJ6.
I now know why people charge so much to
have this done.

You have to remove :

the front two seats
the console
the shifter off of the floor
then remove the passenger front door

to get the headliner, barely out of the car.
I thought that was ridiculous.
Reading that in the Jaguar manual but very accurate. I have heard of people removing the back window.
If you have an XJ6L I have heard you can get it out in the back doors because of their longer length.

Good luck with your task at hand

P.S. Don’t forget the visor and the overhead council which has the fabric that will not match now.

Twist pins to pull liner up into overhead soundproofing, a few bucks on Amazon work great, look good, 5 minute job. Mine only sagged in the back seat area. Been a few years now still good.

Recently, I had an upholsterer restore the sun-washed-faded dashboard. It's expensive, but it fulfilled my needs. When it came to the headliner, I went back to the same business. It's due back in my hands tomorrow 27, June, 2025. I'm excited because they are late for delivery, again. They were over a week late, but did excellent work. I think even in my finest hour of DIY repairs or replacement parts, I am less critical of pro-shop cosmetics results and happy to spend the money, Maybe it's my aging ways. I always do my own detailing so it's not laziness. I love finishing work on things like headliners for the simple reason I hated it when the liner touched my head when driving. Most everything else, I do just because I can.
