Thought I would link this thread here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...7/#post2426343

This seems to be the comprehensive thread on coils. It completes the discussion on QYL coils vs other aftermarket coils and how they relate to the OEM Diamond, made in Japan coils. SPOILER ALERT: QYL seem to be the only aftermarket brand that appear to be fabricated the same way Diamond was. Would be interesting to see what the Prenco, Standard, current Lucas coils all look like once taken apart.

Hi guys,
I'm posting some info regarding the only 'made in Japan" coils that I have found for my XJR6. Hope it helps.

This is the NGK U5045. I ordered them from https://www.gsparkplug.com in the UK (there were the cheapest, at around 200USD per piece...still painful)

My set of 6 pcs came in two versions: one white cover (which seems older) and one with black cover (which seems to be the new one). Made in Japan is only indicated on the box, not on the coil itself. If I'm not mistaken, NGK only manufacture in Japan.

Overall finishing is very good. I'm attaching some picture for your reference.

left is the old version (white) and right is the newer version (black)

Made in Japan on the label

Left, old version with plastic and right, improved paper packaging to protect the environment

Holy **** 1000 euros on coils. What made you replace all 6?

Would love to see what that coil looks like without the rubber boot, as well as the spring and rod inside the boot

@JezuzNoChill - i got the car not in very good shape...I initially replaced with Eurospare but had some some random misfire after few months...and dashboard lighting up randomly (especially when very hot)... on recommendation from some members here, I went for the "Made in Japan" stuff...I decided to do it narrow the problems and those were the only one I could find.

@Vee, please see below. Overall quality feel very good. If you need other info, let me know. Beside the color, I don't see any difference between versions.

Thank you. That certainly looks the part. Identical to the Diamond in every way...from the exterior.

Please keep us informed should these coils fail.
