Help! no dasboard instruments
Help any one...please
I have just had a new CD Alpine head unit fitted, 4 door speakers, an amp under the back seat.
The fitter brought it back, and I have dash lights but no speedo/rev counter/oil/fuel/temp gauge. None of the warning lights come up on start-up.
the car runs fine. He says they were working when he tested it. he has taken it away to have a look tomorrow (it was dark tonight when this problem surfaced)
I am guessing either a fuse which controls all these has blown/got knocked loose, or a major wire to the dashboard has been damaged in behind the stereo, but this second option probably doesn't fit with him saying it worked when he first started it up to check new audio gear..
Is there a fuse to dashboard instruments?

Hi AL NZ,
You don't make it clear whether the problem is with the '95 or '97, but you can download the '95 Electrical Guide here:
http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1995.pdf
And the '97 guide here:
http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1997.pdf
The speedo, rev counter and several other gauges receive their signals via separate circuits, but on the same 24-way black connector on the back of the instrument cluster, so my guess would be that the connector was either partially dislodged or not fully re-seated after the fitter completed his work.
Please keep us informed!
Cheers,
Don

After my first post 48 hours ago, the installer took car back, checked fuses, and earth behind radio, but no success.
He then took the car to my regular mechanic, who got to it today and found the large plug to the instruments was loose but not totally disconnected - he thinks the cable had been stretched and partly disconnected.
So a happy ending, but an extra bill coming my way...

If you haven't already thought of it, might I suggest that you take the extra bill to the installer and ask him to pay it?
