Default Hi from me and my X300.

Hello all i've been lurking on this forum for years I've been on another Jag forum for near 9yrs but never got round to actually making an account and posting on this one..

I've owned a fair bit of old british tat over the years mainly old Land Rovers, however my first car was a 2005 S type 3.0 SE which I still have a great car which I daily drove from 2017 until August last year great car never let me down..

However I've always wanted an Xj from as far back as I can remember, i'm 24 now and back 20 or so years my father had a 1987 Xj40 which i remember quite fondly as it was quite the change from what we usually had.

Sublime and quick with looks to match loved it, however it was bought when Xj40s were near worthless so it was driven for a few years and then scrapped.

From age 5 I knew I wanted an XJ of my own

Anyway end of December 2024 I was browsing facebook marketplace and an old X300 popped up I looked at the ad and payed no further attention to it, the ad disappeared and that was that....

Until 3 days later she was back up..

This time I gave the chap a message on the off chance he'd be free that day to view..

He was and I drove down in to have a look upon looking inn the flesh the condition was better than described and apart from the sagging headliner she really was in great condition.

The seller then told me he bought her off an elderly gent who owned her for 22yrs - I should point out the seller I bought her off only had her a week before selling again!!

So I did the usual crawling around to see what horrors lay beneath...

to my surprise nothing stood out...

So after a test drive a deal was done and on the 29th December I drove home in my new Xj.

Over the years i've viewed a few, most were ropey to say the least..

so enough of me nattering on here she is 1997 Xj6 X330 Sovereign.

I've had her a month done a full service and polished the paintwork to within an inch of its life..

X300 in my humble opinion is peak XJ beautiful low slung lines with real stainless trim adorning the door frames and bumper tops, no fake plastic..

A marvellous interior and of course the unparalleled ride quality with the old 4.0 6.

Anyways.

Thanks all.

H

In your ownership never install the car battery in backwards , ask me how I know

A shop will put it in backwards for you so you must watch

Mark with tape and marker arrow the positive post car fwd

The inline 6 is the final upgraded AJ6 as the AJ16 , the cylinder numbering chart is backwards from the AJ6 as # 6 is the rearmost ( more of the industry standard )

New owner's video and engine shop manual coming

801S TITLE

and see post # 4 for large shop manual

Repair Manual - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Thanks for the info.

I'm a Mechanic so hopefully no battery related shenanigans will happen, I have added a trickle charger to keep her topped up.

That's an inspirational story and she's a beautiful car! Another stately whilst elegant Jag remains on the roads! Well done.

Looks a great car. I agree it's the best looking XJ which is why I bought one. The Series 3 comes close though. Had mine now for 8 years and no intention of selling. Bring it along to some Jag events, its good to see a younger owner!
