I have been looking for a way to improve my headlights for ages, and have found the "130% brighter" straight swap bulbs a complete waste of time. I was interested in HID, but had been led to believe that they could not be retrofitted in the UK, as the construction and use regulations expressly prohibit it. Given the lights and beam pattern are tested at the annual MoT, have you figured a way round this? If you have, this could be a very interesting upgrade.
Already have got a direct swap of the bulbs to HID's (and LED's for fogs)
They have passed the last few MOT's without any problems
... but I fancied a slightly different look!
Not exactly the most "straightforward" upgrade however!!!!!
Firstly you need lenses from an X308 as they are clear and the ones from a X300 would not work with the lens.
Secondly you need to heat them for 2 hours at 175C in the oven to separate the glass from the back - be very careful at this stage, one shattered from a unseen stone chip!
You then need to measure and cut a hole in the back to accommodate the lens (see first pic at top)
Then you need to glue it all back together, and then do all the wiring with the sidelights for the HALO, and add the ballast for that bit, then the ballast for the HID kit AND the Canbus canceler...
