Default Holes in my floor!

I was under my 1996 Sovereign and was disturbed to see a fair degree of corrosion at the floor to cills both sides!! Prodding with a screwdriver confirmed my fears that the rust worm has been busy and I have a hole in the passenger side foot well!! So, I have attempted to remove the carpet and for the life of me I cannot see how to remove the door/cill covers. The main body of the finisher is an aluminium extrusion with a decorative "Jaguar" plate fitted on top. This plate appears to be adhered to the underlying extrusion. I fear that attempting to remove this will be the demise of the finishing plate. Has anyone had experiance of removing these finishers? Alec G.

the decorative plates are fixed with two sided tape; for removal of the decorative plates heat is your friend so just use heat gun then just peel them of. Under the decorative plates there are screws.

As well as heat, a scraper helps. You can slide the scraper horizontally along the tread plate without distorting the bright finisher.

Well that did not take long! The heat gun softened the adhesive and the long sharp blade did the rest. The screws holding the extrusion to the floor proved a little troublesome in that two came out easily but the third one decided to round off the drive. So out came the drill and we soon put paid to that. The remains of the screw were removed with sharp nosed pliers. Now to find some floor repair panels and dry out the carpet! Alec G.

I couldn't find any repair panels available for the X300, I made all my floor & sill repair panels. The XJ40 rear wheel arch repair panels fit the X300, just with the rear lower section cut off, where the bumper comes in on the X300. Full panels for JLR classic are also limited.

The XJ40 wheel arch repair panels are a slightly different profile from the X300, so depending how much of the arch you intend to repair, you might need to work around that too, as well as cutting the lower section.

I am not having any luck with finding panels either and I can't find the part numbers either. I guess I'll have to buy some steel sheet and bodge my own!

Default Success!!

My good friend and garage proprietor has weld repaired the floor/cill areas of my car! I stripped out the seats and carpet and trim panels as needed to get access to the affected corroded areas. There was also some corrosion under the jacking point and near the front suspension mounting. All fixed! He also pointed out corrosion in the rear suspension area that will need removal and repainting/protecting. Now it is fully re/assembled and back on the road. Now for the rear suspension corrosion!
