Default front Spring compressor

I remember a while back somebody on the forum was loaning a spring compressor for the front springs. Would anybody or that person be willing to loan me it. Id rather use that instead of some other way of getting those dang thiings out.

spring compressors can be cheaply purchased from eBay, I bought one set myself about 3 years ago, and managed few repairs with it on several cars so far, didn't pay more than 13 USD including postage, and it's definitely safer than most of homemade ones...

The XJ has a somewhat unusual and beefy spring compressor requirement. Select carefully.

This is the proper Jaguar compressor:

It's a substantial piece of kit for the very good reason that the springs are under tremendous pressure.

The curve on the spring when it's in place makes standard compressors useless to the point of being dangerous.

I've been fortunate in being able to borrow a Jaguar compressor when I've needed to replace front springs. Without one, it's a job I'd certainly leave to professionals.

Where can a spring compressor like this be found? I need to replace the shocks on the rear of the car and would like to have the right tools.

I bought a set from Harbor freight two months ago and used them on my 1997 XJR rear springs I had to shorten the two bolts so they fit in the space you have but they worked great. No good for the front springs mind you..

They didn't cost a lot either if I recall..

I have one that I have never used. Don't think I ever will because I don't have any way to get the clearance far enough to slide that rod up the spring.

You can send me a PM if you're interested, I just don't know if shipping will make sense here?

For you folks down under you might try SNG Barratt. We recently discovered they have some service tools in their on line parts search. One of the tools we purchased was this spring compressor as they are in high demand. They may possibly have more and yes these are factory tools. You may need to search by the Jaguar number or the later global number. Also not sure of the rules for Bosch in that part of the world but they (Bosch) have taken over tool distribution so search for Jaguar Factory tools Bosch or Bosch Service Solutions. Of course as said if in North America no need to purchase as members may loan tools at any time. Best of luck!

Info---earlier cars where the top of the tower is open use tool JD 6H or Global 204-008 Later cars with the 90 deg rotation pin and no top access use JD115 or 204-111 (tool in question in this thread.

Then if you are in San Jose you should join JCNA or become a Coventry Foundation Patron and just loan the tool!

I did loan my spring compressor to a fellow member on this site! He was unhappy with it though and returned it. I note you are in the States. I am in England! That is an issue! Alec G.
