How about a 1997 Vanden Plas?

I'm about to purchase a 1997 XJ6 Vanden Plas from a trusted dealer/friend. I owned a 1994 XJ40, and it wasn't a very trustworthy car. My question is, how are the X300's in comparison to the XJ40's? How is the build quality, reliability, cost of ownership? Anything to lookout for?

Overall quite good but age, mileage, and previous care and feeding eventually take their toll....so I wouldn't expect a drive-it-and-forget-it ownership experience.
