Default I fitted a 1994 XJ40 cam cover to my x300

Fully installed with XJ40 gaskets

Showing the Mustang Coyote coils I’ve posted about before .

A bit of skill needed to drill and tap the cam cover in the groove for the m6 stud that holds the coils down.

The baffle has been removed cleaned and reinstalled with 2x diameter M6 flange bolts , lock tite high strength and torqued with an 1/4 drive torque wrench .

The setup to drill and tap out the fixings for the baffle .

Developing the coil cover plate .

Some hands on paper templates before taking it to fusion 360z

This was quite an involved process

I opted to use the x300 shoulder bolts for less leaks and better security . This means drilling and reaming the cam cover to 8mm.

I’ve kept the tube seals from the x300 so it Maintains the correct crush height . I measured both cam covers with gaskets installed to verify this .

The studs that hold the cover plate are secured on the underside by Motorsport K-nuts. These are a deformed thread flange nut as used in aircraft and top levels of motor sport .

lastly I removed the steel press fit fitting to the breather pipe and installed it in the Xj40 csm cover after carefully die grinding it out so it matched the rubber pipe as fitted to an x300.

When I get more time I hope to machine some shoulder bolts that look like nuts to give it a bit more of an XK vibe .

I don’t care much for the looks of the magnesium cam cover , all of my favourite engines have rubbed cam covers and now my XJ6 does too !

I thought about doing something like this a few decades ago but then I sold all mt X300s and got into X308s and X100s.

Good to see it is possible.

maybe you could gauge some interest and see if it might be worth modifying and selling....
could be a bit too much for some people to do themselves but i am sure many would love this.

It was pretty involved. I’ve probably got 20 hours in all of this . I had a few issues where I miss drilled things and had to tig weld up the mistake and go again.

I’ve shown how it can be done . I would give someone the cad file for the coil bracket but the other 90% of work is in modifying the cam cover .

if you didn’t covert to the shoulder bolts it would be a lot faster but it would probably leak like xj40s do.

it’s specifically got to be the rare 1994 only xj40 cam cover as it has the revised bolt locations that match the AJ16
