Default intermittent remote function..

hi everyone,

am I the only one who has a very intermittent remote operation or is is a common x300 anomaly?

both little batteries are new (and correct type), and remote is programmed and it works, although quite intermittently.

the green/red lights on the remote do come on when buttons are pressed, and sometimes it opens/closes the doors (5%) but most often it does not (95%)

any idea why? my other cars remotes work really well even 20m from the car...

failing that... I may install an off the shelf security system,... what kind of bypass module do I need to bypass the OEM setup? what kind of OEM security system is this? (VATS, Passlock, Transponder, etc?)

thanks

i too had that issue, what i did was i got some contact cleaner at radio shack and opened the fob up and cleaned the entire thing. I cleaned and dried the buttons and after that its been working great ever since! I wont lie, 5% of the time i will have to hit the button twice to get it to unlock or lock but these cars are already 16 years old so its a miracle it works in the first place! hope this helps!

Mine too...but it's about 5% doesn't work vs. 95% does. I'll try cleaning its innards as ETA suggested if it gets more bothersome,

thanks,... I opened it up, but I don't see anything dirty inside ...

there are 2 small microswitches (lock/unlock), and as soon as I touch them, the corresponding red/green lights do come on, indicating connection is decent

I am still toying with the idea of an off the shelf alarm unit if installation is not too involved...
