Default Jaguar car phone

X300 1997 3.2 auto
It has a fitted jaguar car phone which I have got working with an O2 SIM card but I can't use it hands free. No noise when I press buttons and no ringing when the phone goes. It has an after market stereo but the only spare wire is a connector for the non existent cd changer.

Stu,

Looking at the wiring diagram, the telephone transceiver is connected to the standard jaguar radio/cassette had unit by 3 wires Purple/Red, Purple/Pink and Purple/Orange

The wiring diagram is not explicit but I would think that one of these wires would carry an interrupt signal to mute the radio when a call occurs, at least one or both of the others will carry the voice signal.

If your aftermarket head unit has inputs for these, make sure they are connected. It's quite possible that the previous owner didn't bother connecting them when replaced the head unit.

Can't help you with your issue (although sounds interesting), but I think the optional Jag armrest with the phone built-in would be interesting to retro-fit to just use the depression that the phone sits in as a tray for your smartphone if one had a blue-tooth capable head-unit
