Hi, just bought a 1996 Jag xj6 4,0 sport. I have two questions:

1: Is it belt or chain on the camshaft?
2: I want to buy the Jaguar leaper hood mascot. Does it fit best with the 5" or 7", and did any of the x300 come original with the leaper? Anyone who has a DIY where to drill holes in the hood, and anyone who can recommend a place to buy it on the internet? I looked on some different ones at ebay.co.uk but i don`t know witch one to buy.

Cheers

1) Chain

2) The USA market X300s came with the leaper as standard equipment. I suggest exploring that avenue for a replacement.

Funny how individual tastes vary. I don't like the leaper at all ! If my Jag ever goes in for body repairs or a repaint I'll ask that it be removed :-)

Cheers,
DD

Thanks

Is it anyone here who can tell me if the USA market X300s came with 5" or 7" leaper? And do anyone here have a link to one that fit good on my car?

The USA cars came withe the largest leaper available. I thought it was 9", but I don't think they offer a 9", so it's 7". If you will fit a leaper, I'd suggest being absolutely certain to do it in the right place. I've seen people fit them too far back on the hood which just looks silly.

Yes i know. I want it to look as original as possible to the US version. Do you know any DIY thread where i can see in pictures where to place it. Or maybe measurements (where to place it)? I see that many of the leapers people sell on ebay have different ways to attach them.

I just measured mine. The total length is about 8" overall. The leaping Jaguar itself is about 6".

Just call up your local Jag dealer and ask them to order a leaper as fitted to the USA market X300s. Or, look for a USA vender selling used X300 parts on Ebay...or similar.

Or, go to the JDHT webpage and order one that way.

To buy the leaper, I'd go on eBay and order whatever one came (or would have come) with your car.

I just measured mine, and it is in the very center of the hood. It is 5" back from the forehead of the growler that's on the grille.
