Default Jurid coupling and ATF change: torque setups

Right, so my xj6 x300 developed a rather annoying vibration at 45-55mph.

After much reading and ruling out (and overhauling) loads of front end and brake stuff I've narrowed it down to propshaft. The central bearing mount has a bit of vertical play which seems standard, I've moved the coupling from the propshaft to the diff 120degrees and the vibration has gone down, so tomorrow I'll try and move 120 more, looking good.

The Jurid coupling is still "ok" ish, but I've just bought a new one to replace it just in case. I thought that Jag used to balance the propshaft and jurid as one piece, so am a bit worried about what's going to happen if I stick a new one on...perhaps I will have to play about with it a bit. Any ideas on torque setup for this?

Also, and going back to the main thing I wanted to ask, I will replace the ATF this weekend, just got a new filter and seal delivered. Does anyone know the torque setups for the filter and pan bolts? I haven't been able to find them anywhere...

Thanks in advance!

Miq.

You have messed with the Jurid already and tightened the bolts/nuts so far. Good enough. From memory I dont think there is much room there for a torque wrench and socket??.

The same goes for the auto pan and filter. I just tighten them to a good firm torque, and have had no issues to date. You will get a feel for how tight when you slacken what is there now for removal.

I use a torque wrench when rebuilding engines and so forth, but minor/service items are faily basic, and as long they are "tight", no harm will come of things.

There will be figures somewhere, but I also have not found them for the X300.

Brill thanks for the reply. Yes, I also tend to work "by feel", but being something to do with gaskets (oil pan) and parts rotating at high rpm's I wanted to make sure that there were no leaks or uncompensated bolts.

I tend to go "gorilla tight" with everything, but with Jaaags I'd rather use proper torque setups or try and be smooth, at the end of the day these cars are far more well balanced than any others

Funny enough I didn't struggle at all with the Jurid (I only disconnected the 3 bolts that attach to the diff pinion), plenty of space there...perhaps it's because I am used to my rather horrendous to work with Lancia...Italians hey lol

Thanks again.

Pan and filter are both 8Nm. If you can find a copy of the Jaguar Heritage parts and service manual CD it's all in there.
