Not sure if this info has been posted before, but I could find nothing here about it.

Anyway….I could not bring myself to purchase a replacement remote for my XJ6 when I found info that the Saab 900 remote will work just like Jaguar’s.

Wasn’t sure if it would work, so found one on eBay for $20 (SAAB LTQFM433 Factory OEM KEY FOB) and took a chance, and walla! Received today and just finished programming it to the car and it works just like my old one.

Hope this helps someone else out there, I just purchased two more from the same seller!

 

My experience was that neither of my 2 original key fobs had batteries in them when I bought the car. When I fitted new batteries the small indicator lights illuminated on one of them, although very dimly. The other fob showed no signs of life at all. I then spent a lot of frustrating time trying unsuccessfully to re-program the "illuminating" one. In the end I decided to open them up and check the tiny button contact points, which strangely enough appeared less worn in the non-working fob. I removed the points from that fob and soldered them into the "illuminating" fob (you need good eyesight, a steady hand and a fine tip soldering tool for this job! - you can also buy replacement points on eBay). As I was doing this job the car was close by, and the moment I refitted the batteries, presto! the door locks responded. It has worked perfectly ever since. I'm not sure why the good points wouldn't respond in their original fob, unless another part of its circuitry was faulty.

The real point here is that despite advice given in the handbook, disconnecting the batteries for a lengthy period does not necessarily cause the fob to lose program. Mine were non-functional for just over 2 years in my ownership and I have no idea how long they had been in that state prior. Despite this, re-programming was totally unnecessary.

Be aware that there are 2 frequencies for the X300 in the U.S.

Be sure to check this before buying or programming.

knealy2, Does Your 96 Jaguar had a VIN number higher than this VIN 759614 number? I am going to follow your lead but I want make sure the Saab 900 LTQFM433 fob works with 1997 XJ6.

Regarding the two frequencies.






I talked to Jag dealer in Scottsdale, AZ and they said that if you have a American version of the Jag, their fobs were all set to 315Mhz while all of the UK versions use the 433Mhz, hence the two frequencies.

 

My 1997 US Jag runs on the 433Mhz. If I recall correctly '95 and '96 cars used the 315Mhz, while '97 models used 433Mhz, but '96 VDPs also used 433Mhz (less sure about that last one).

The sure way to know what frequency you have is to remove the SLCM and read what is on it. People can change modules, especially on cars this old.

I just bought a used 315MHZ for 1997 xj6 and it did not work. The reason I asked the question earlier to Knealy 2 with his 1996 so I potentially buy the cheaper Saab fob. There are no American version or England version. Short wheel base with VIN number higher than VIN 759614 uses 433Mhz. For sure all shortwheel base 1997 and maybe some 1996 use 433Mhz

yes 1995 uses 315mhz

 

My Saab remote came yesterday and I programmed it today. $19.95 including shipping from Keyless King on ebay. It even had good batteries.

The XJ6, but I think both cars are 315 Mhz, so I may buy another and try it on the XK8.

Ordered the Saab remote for my 97 XJR, that was missing the remote(s). Today, tried following the procedure given for programming it, and never could get the chirp spoken of. Can anybody give me a better tip? Thanks!

 

I just went outside just to put my xjr in learning mode. At first it wouldn't work but are you making sure all doors/trunk are unlocked (turning key twice to unlock)? After I unlocked all doors/trunk I was able to put it into learning mode. That's as far as I got since I haven't ordered the key fob

 

I thought I had, but I will try again. I actually got in the car, shut the door, and tried it. Think I need to leave the door open? Maybe the interior lights need to be on?
