Purchased correct remote for my 97XJR. It took three tries in reprogramming, but it now works like a charm. This forum is a awesome tool. Thanks everyone.

I bought the correct 413mHz on eBay. 85.00. When I programmed it first time, it would lock, but not unlock the doors. Second time, it locked once, but not twice. 3rd time, partially disgusted, it surprisingly worked perfectly. Just went out and tried again, and its working as it should

I also recently found another one being advertised as a 433 MHz on EBay. I won the auction at $89. Let's hope it is the right one this time.

Even though mine is a 97 XJR, I had to use the instructions for a earlier car. It seems to be working great now....

Superchargedtr6: What were the instructions that you used????

Received my key FOB today and never got a chance to see if it works.

I cannot get my Jag to chirp and flash the headlamps.

Open Trunk
Open Driver's Door
Key ON, but not start
Press valet switch 5 times and NOTHING. Press Valet more than 5 times and still NOTHING.

Any help would be appreciated.

Joe

Are you making sure all doors are unlocked? I had the same issue but I realized I was only unlocking the drivers door

The 5 toggle thing didn't work for me either. I just rapidly toggled it several times until I heard it chirp and the lights flashed. I had all 4 doors unlocked, the drivers door open, and the trunk open. And it took 3 tries to get it working at that. My wife told me last night that it had quit working, so I went out and reprogrammed it again, and it started working again. I'm replacing the batteries asap.

Superchargedtr6 trick did not work for me. I seem to be able to set the alarm by turning the key in the driver's towards the front of the car. I get a beep and my lights flash, but any I cannot get the same beep and light flash when the truck is open, all doors are unlocked, driver's door is open, key in on position, and rock valet switch many, many, many times.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hmm that sounds weird. I would try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and maybe check the security module by the fuel tank filler next to make sure all harnesses are plugged in then reconnect the battery again.

Also, while you're at the security module, note down the frequency that's on the sticker.

Al,
Looked in the fuel tank filler area and could not find the security module, unless it is a silver rectangle box. If it is, I could access it as it was tucked way back behind the fuel cap locking module and I could not see a label. Unplugged the battery and tried that and it did not work. Am I missing it?
Thanks,
Joe

GOT IT. I researched other threads and found one where the trunk had to be opened with the dash switch, unlock all doors, open drivers door, turn key on, rock valet switch 5 times and Woo Hoo, a beep and flashing lights. Hit the big button on the key FOB and it worked.

Before the dash switch would work, we had to reset the Valet switch. So another thread suggested to use a coat hanger in a hole behind the license plate. That did not work, so I removed the inside panel around the lock and lock my little wife in the trunk and she was able to open the trunk from the inside. This reset the Valet switch and allowed the trunk dash switch to work.

Great help....thanks everyone.

As stated earlier, the Chinese cloning remote does NOT work. It was worth a try.

After being so glad I could lock/unlock with my new remote, I have to return for advice. The remote worked for a few days, then stopped. The lights worked in it, but nothing would happen. I reprogrammed the car, and it worked again. A couple of days later, quit. Now I can't get the car to chirp by rocking the valet switch. Ideas?

superchargedtr6....see post #73. You may want to try to reset your valet switch and open the trunk with the dash switch.

Did you use this EXACT procedure? It took me a few tries before I got the slow flashing blue light. The trick was to immediately release the buttons right when the fast flashing stops. Tricky to get the timing down.

1. Press the two top buttons simultaneously (no light should flash when you press them together, hold down the buttons until the blue LED flashes quickly for 2 seconds and then a slow steady flash - this takes around 5 to 10 seconds. Then release all buttons IMMEDIATELY.

2. Place the cloner remote and the original remote close together so that they are touching.

3. Simultaneously press a button on your original remote and one of the buttons on the clone remote (the one you would like to copy your existing remotes button to) and hold until the LED on the clone remote flashes quickly, this indicates successful cloning.

All keyless entry Jaguars that use (JLM 1950) keys utilise a "Fixed Code" Fob. It wasn't until 1998 that any rolling code Fobs were introduced. The majority of X308's between 1998-2000 that used pelletised key blanks for the immobiliser system (HNA 7230AA1) also utilise fixed code Fobs. It wasn't until 2000 that the switch was made to rolling code systems with rolling code Fob's and a rolling code key (HJD 7230AA1)

Fixed code systems can all be cloned. Rolling code systems cannot.

Suede,
I will try again. Mine does not have a blue flashing light. Mine goes from slow amber blink to fast blink. I obviously have a different one.

Smile Expensive 433mhz remote FOB

I have a 1996 Vanden Plas. The remote frequency is 433mhz. I bought the car without a remote. I read about the Saab remote and bought it before I knew they are 315mhz. Of coarse it didn't work. I refused to pay over $100.00 for each OEM Jaguar 433mhz remote. I did extensive research and found that I could just buy an after market alarm system with the door lock/unlock function. I simply installed it and connected it to my lock and unlock wires. It unlocks and locks my doors also arms and disarms my OEM security system exactly as it should.
The 1996 Vanden Plas lock wire is orange and yellow. The unlock wire is orange and blue. They are located in the drivers kick panel. They are negative operated. I'll save you some time by telling you which system to buy. Here is the link. Works very well. Easy install.
Amazon.com: AL.1 - Soundstream 3-Channel Car Security Alarm System Keyless Entry: Electronics Amazon.com: AL.1 - Soundstream 3-Channel Car Security Alarm System Keyless Entry: Electronics
.
It has negative door lock/unlock operation so it's simple to install and hook up to your wires. It also has the function to press the lock button twice and hold to lock and roll up your windows with the remote. Problem solved. A cheap price. I also like the look of the remotes.
NO $120.00 USED UGLY JAGUAR REMOTE.
Of coarse you can buy any alarm system but the one I have is inexpensive and rolls up my windows. I'm a happy camper.
