Laundry List
Hello:
I have a few questions please on items that need to be addrtess on my 97 XJ6 VDP.
1. What do you guys do to fix the rear windshield brake light? Mine is coming seperating from the rear window and sagging to one side - I have tried repairing it with no luck.
2. Any ideas on how to remove the rear view mirror? I think mine got stuck on night mode and so the top side is ok and the bottom of the mirror is dark? Also if I can replace it - where is the best place to buy one? - I am concerned about cracking the windscreen if I try to remove it, It does not look like I can unscrew it and leave the base of the unit on the windscreen and just replace the mirror?
Cheers,
Wayne.

Jaguar issued a TSB and adhesive recommendations when I worked at the dealer.
The mirror failures are well documented here on the forum in the X300/X308/X100 sections.
There are repair shops to address the electrochromatic fluid leaks etc.

The rear view mirror comes in 2 different mounting versions in the X300 production years
What I did with mine since my mirror was fogging over was to find a replacement at the salvage yard and swapped out the internals including the mirror glass
This replacement mirror was a different mount so swapping the internals negated the need to remove it from the windshield glass
If you take a quarter coin or smaller on the slider switch gap the front bezel will separate like a snap together plastic model
There may be a car other then the Jaguar X300 that you can do this with maybe a later X308

1. Anything from 3M will generally do the job ok, if not go for proper kit, either for rear view mirrors or Jag permatex glue.
2. As Parker mentioned, there are two types of mirrors, one that turns clockwise/anticlockwise(where the mount is quite round at the windshield) and one that you'll have to push up to remove. The latter one has a metal clip inside, there should be a small hole at the bottom of the mount where you can push a small screwdriver and then the whole mirror up.
Your mirror leaked so you will need a replacement and you will have to remove the mirror off the windscreen mount to replace it. You could remove the mirror off the arm itself but its going to be tricky and you wont be able to pass the cable through the mount later. Generally the mirror cable goes through the mount. Mirror itself is secured to the arm with a metal ring around the arm ball where it connect to the mirror, you should be able to see if from outside through the windscreen. This needs removing first, then you can pull the mirror itself, just be careful if you go that route and remember that there is a cable inside the mount that will only extend maybe 15cm so you cant pull it more thatn that or you'll rip it off completely or break something.
Plenty of replacement mirrors on eBay. Not a difficult job to swap it either.
